Critic’s corner: What’s on TV this weekend

Great Performances: Stephen Sondheim’s “Company” With the New York Philharmonic Friday, 9 p.m., Ch. 2

This bang-up concert staging of one of Sondheim’s greatest achievements is a star-studded affair with Broadway vets (Patti LuPone, Katie Finneran), musically inclined TV stars (Stephen Colbert, Christina Hendricks) and a group of actors who fit both categories (Neil Patrick Harris, Jon Cryer, Martha Plimpton). The musical tells the sometimes funny, sometimes tragic tale of a single man named Bobby (Harris) fielding conflicting relationship advice from his very opinionated, mostly married friends in classic songs including “The Ladies Who Lunch,” “Being Alive,” and “Side By Side.”
