Critic’s corner: What’s on TV Monday night

Hostages Monday, 10 p.m., CBS

Dear executives at CBS, you owe me $8.99 (plus tax). After a night binging on episodes of the Toni Collette, Dylan McDermott (above) drama, I found several new gray hairs, and I’m now in need of a date with my friend Miss Clairol. Hence my request for $8.99 (she’s a cheap date). “Hostages” is much more stressful and complicated than I anticipated. The dialogue can be a bit procedural and there are too many subplots, but it’s still a white-knuckle drama. Collette, playing a prominent surgeon, is held hostage by McDermott (not as sexy as it sounds). He’s strong-arming her character to kill the president during a forthcoming surgery. There are only 15 episodes of the show, and then it’s done.
