The Sound of Music Live! 8 p.m., NBC
Men who play vampires, both handsome and dashing. Guys who’ve won Tonys and are so very “Smash”-ing. Ladies with voices like songbirds in spring. These are a few of our favorite things. Stephen Moyer (“True Blood”), Tony winners Christian Borle (“Smash”), Audra McDonald (“Private Practice”), and Laura Benanti (“Go On”) rally around country star Carrie Underwood — as a problem like Maria — in this live take on the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic and high school staple. (Yours truly was the nun who observed that Maria was a “flibbertigibbet” back in the day.) With talent like that in the cast, we’re hopeful this production will score big ratings and bring musical theater back to the big broadcast networks.
Comedy Warriors: Healing Through Humor 8 p.m., Showtime
With the hopes that laughter is the best medicine, this documentary finds comedians Lewis Black, Zach Galifianakis, BJ Novak, and Bob Saget working with five severely wounded Iraq/Afghanistan veterans. The vets explore their personal experiences and write their own stand-up comedy routines, which they then perform at one of LA’s top comedy clubs. Pictured: vet Rob Jones.
