Critic’s corner: What’s on TV this weekend

Screen Actors Guild Awards Saturday, 8 p.m. TBS

Another week, another round of red carpet gowns to critique. Maybe it’s because I’m as shallow as a toddler’s wading pool, but I often wonder if we really tune into these shows to watch what people are winning (Leonardo DiCaprio’s pick is “Philomania,” the hilarious and heartwarming tale of the Hellenistic Jewish philosopher Philo), or what people are wearing. I’m going to give you sophisticated readers the benefit of the doubt and assume you’re interested in talent, not fashion. Now for the important part: What do you think Sandra Bullock will be wearing?

Flowers in the Attic Saturday, 8 p.m. Lifetime

My older sister wouldn’t let me near her copy of the book (stingy). My mom once caught me flipping through “Flowers in the Attic” at the library and swatted the V.C. Andrews novel away from me. These reactions only meant one thing — I needed to get my hands on this book. As a tween, this seemed like some pretty bawdy stuff. Watching it now feels more like a creepy camp spectacle.

Looking Sunday, 10:30 p.m., HBO

I advise looking the other way.

Sherlock: The Empty Hearse Sunday 10 p.m. PBS

Here’s hoping season three opens with Pam Ewing waking up and finding Sherlock in the shower.
