The Real Mary Poppins 9 p.m, WGBH

This documentary on author P.L. Travers combines interviews and footage from the 2002 documentary “The Shadow of Mary Poppins” with clips from the recent film “Saving Mr. Banks.” Its stars — including Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks — contribute comments about Travers and her enduring, fantastical nanny character, she of the magical umbrella and sugary medical advice. While there has been much discussion about how “true” the true story of the film is — as happens with many films of “Banks”’s ilk — expect this hour to shed both new light and support the film’s version of the author’s indisputably interesting life.
