Critic’s corner: What’s on TV Tuesday night

Tommy Garcia/Syfy

Face Off 9 p.m. Syfy

I know you’ll be watching the president’s State of the Union Address tonight at 9 p.m. and you won’t be channel surfing to “My 600-lb Life” or “Moonshiners.” So while you’re not channel surfing, might I advise that you don’t channel surf to Syfy to watch “Face Off.” This is “Project Runway” for science fiction lovers. Prosthetic makeup artists compete to make goose-pimple-inducing monsters, aliens, and other-worldly beasts. Tonight the artists do their best to create dragon costumes. I’m telling you this because, again, I know you’ll be too busy watching the president to see it for yourself.

Cougar Town 10 p.m. TBS

There has been a lot of “Friends” reunion scuttlebutt lately — and by a lot I mean Matt LeBlanc said in an interview that he’d be game to do it. Perhaps the appearance of Matthew Perry on Courteney Cox’s boozy “Cougar Town” earlier this month was another indication that the actors are game to go back to Central Perk. There are no “Friends” cameos tonight (stop your groaning), but there is something better: Laurie (the always amazing Busy Philipps) is cooking up erotic cakes. Dessert is served.
