Critic’s corner: What’s on TV this weekend

The National Memorial Day Concert 2014 Sunday, 8 p.m., Channel 2

Joe Mantegna and Gary Sinise return to cohost this yearly tribute to America’s military heroes. Performers from the pop, country, and classical worlds — including Danielle Bradbery, Megan Hilty of “Smash” fame, Jackie Evancho, and Anthony Kearns — perform with the National Symphony Orchestra under conductor Jack Everly on the West Lawn of the Capitol.

2014 Golden God Awards Saturday, 8 p.m., VH1 Classic

This annual kudocast hands out honors to the best in hard rock and heavy metal. When the event streamed online recently it revealed a host of glitches and goofiness, including ID-ing late Warrant singer Jani Lane as a member of Motörhead. We’re hoping that this edited-for-broadcast edition does a better job at honoring the underepresented genre. Artists who took to the stage at Club Nokia in Los Angeles included Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Joan Jett, and Zakk Wylde.
