It wouldn’t be a debate night without a puppet show, thanks to Stephen Colbert

Stephen Colbert provided the cherry on the suspense-flavored ice cream that the final presidential debate served up Wednesday night — puppets and all.

“The Late Show” host reacted live to the debate after it ended, quickly taking Republican nominee Donald Trump to task for not committing to accept the results of the Nov. 8 election.

“Oooh, oooh, suspense! Democracy’s gonna end with a cliffhanger. I guess, I guess we’re all gonna have to wait until Nov. 9 to find out if we still have a country, if Donald Trump is in the mood for a peaceful transfer of power or if he’s just gonna wipe his fat [expletive] with the Constitution,” Colbert ranted.

The joke was aimed at an exchange Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton had over which candidate would be a puppet for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Colbert’s take was more entertaining than the original, because there’s nothing like hearing “no, you’re the puppet!” from actual sock puppets:
