David Ives’s ‘Venus in Fur’ joins Huntington Theatre season

David Ives’s “Venus in Fur,” A.R. Gurney’s “The Cocktail Hour,” and a world-premiere comic drama by Stephen Belber will round out the Huntington Theatre Company’s 2013-14 subscription season. The company announced four other productions earlier this month.

The Belber play, “The Power of Duff,” will be the first show of the season in the Wimberly Theatre at the Boston Center for the Arts, running Oct. 11-Nov. 9. Huntington artistic director Peter DuBois will direct the play, about a newscaster whose on-camera prayers are answered. Greg Kinnear played the newscaster in DuBois’s developmental production of “The Power of Duff” last summer at New York Stage and Film, where the ensemble included Jennifer Westfeldt (“Kissing Jessica Stein”). Casting for the Huntington production is not yet set. Belber’s other plays include “Tape,” “Match,” and “A Small, Melodramatic Story.”
