Martin Johnson Heade’s “Newburyport Marshes, a Passing Storm” is one of 25 items in “ ‘This Mighty Scourge of War’: Art of the American Civil War.”
Alexander Gardner’s “Ruins of the Arsenal, Richmond, Virginia” is also in the Bowdoin College Museum of Art exhibit.
Winslow Homer’s Civil War press pass is also in the show in Brunswick, Maine.
The exhibit includes a Mathew Brady portrait of Colonel Joshua Chamberlain, whose defense of Little Round Top leading the 20th Maine helped preserve the Union victory.
