Hope, skepticism for cold fusion

The Italian scientist who claims to have developed the world’s first nuclear cold fusion reactor was at the State House last week to explore the prospects of developing the device and producing it in Massachusetts. Andrea Rossi made the trip at the invitation from Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr (R-Gloucester).

My hunch is that Andrea Rossi shared ancestors with Carlo Ponzi.

Do the research. Cold Fusion works but what also works is the continued effort to make it seem it is a lightweight piece of science. This would have to be expected because we are dealing with safe, free energy. The oil companies don't want this. And he will never get the patent. That's the influence of the oil mega-powers.

Does Bruce Tarr have a Phd in physics? Please, no more state subsidies for early stage, high risk ventures. Private risk capital would already be lining up to fund this if it were a viable approach.

Hey, maybe he can locate his manufacturing plant at Devans, and name his company Evergreen Fusion. I understand that both the space and the name are available... Seriously, even if the technology is proven (as Evergreen Solar's was), why were there no experienced investors or business people invited to this meeting? After all, Evergreen Solar's failure wasn't in having an unproven technology, it was in having a business plan that wasn't sustainable in Massachusetts' high-cost manufacturing environment. In hindsight, everybody now sees in Evergreen what private sector investors saw well before Beacon Hill got involved with that fiasco. Maybe, before the political and Academic communities get all excited about investing in Cold Fusion in Massachusetts, we should be asking some real investors whether or not there's a business model here that would work?
