Raising the baton with Thomas Wilkins

The BSO’s first black conductor applies his passion to inspiring a new generation

Early this year, Thomas Wilkins became the first African American to hold a conducting position at the Boston Symphony Orchestra. One of his goals as the BSO’s Youth and Family Concerts Conductor is to encourage cultural diversity among the ranks of classical musicians.
