Dorchester developer has a new vision for city homes

How one new development is strengthening a neighborhood’s multicultural identity

Harvard Commons, a porch-front community at the old Boston State Hospital site, includes custom-made single-family homes designed to attract higher-income professionals to an area known more for affordable housing. Cruz, whose family comes from Cape Verde, owns one of the largest black-owned development companies in the state.
