Sears’ new retail czar joins an ailing icon

Brookstone Inc. chief executive a product innovator

Can Ron Boire save Sears? Yesterday the ailing retailer tapped the Brookstone Inc. chief executive to serve as its chief merchandising officer. The appointment comes just days after Sears Holdings Corp., facing sliding sales, unveiled plans to shake up the company, including shutting up to 120 Sears and Kmart stores across the country, slashing inventory, and reducing fixed costs. Boire, who previously headed Toys “R’’ Us, boosted business at the New Hampshire electronics chain during a challenging economic environment.
