Gulf Oil is looking to become an electricity supplier

The Framingham-based company, said it will launch the new service, Gulf Electricity, in Connecticut in March, but expects to expand into Massachusetts in about a year, and will ultimately spread nationwide. Utility deregulation rules make it possible for Massachusetts and Connecticut customers to choose between a default electricity supplier or competing firms to get the best price, though they still receive bills from their regular utility for distribution and transmission costs.
