Illumina surged after the maker of DNA analysis equipment was offered about $5.7 billion in cash in a hostile bid by Roche Holding AG. Roche said the deal would accelerate routine clinical use of DNA testing. San Diego-based Illumina makes systems that analyze an individual’s DNA. Illumina’s board urged shareholders not to take action until it reviewed the proposal.
