MassMutual makes list of Top 50 Companies for Executive Women

MassMutual Financial Group has been named to a national list of “Top 50 Companies for Executive Women.”

The annual list is compiled by the National Association for Female Executives, and it focuses on companies that have at least 500 US employees and two women on their boards of directors.

On average, companies that made this year’s list had 23 percent of their top posts held by women. At Springfield-based MassMutual, women make up 28 percent of corporate executives, the report found.

“Our women’s leadership initiative seeks to identify top talent within MassMutual and ensure access to mentoring, training, and other tools to help them effectively advance their careers,” said Elaine Sarsynski, executive vice president of MassMutual’s Retirement Services Division and chairman and chief executive of MassMutual International LLC. “We are also especially proud of our diverse board that includes three female directors.”

Perhaps one reason why more Massachusetts companies didn’t make the list is because more and more local firms have been acquired by large companies from somewhere else, and many firms based in the Bay State aren’t large enough to qualify for the list’s size criteria.
