With Southwest Airlines discontinuing its Boston-Philadelphia route as of Feb. 11, once again leaving US Airways as the sole nonstop carrier on the route, the lowest roundtrip fare between the two cities is doubling, to about $520. Southwest has dropped five routes out of Philadelphia this year, including Manchester, Providence, Pittsburgh, and Jacksonville.

I could understand why most airlines would avoid PHL. The airport is a nightmare and it would be difficult to make money. I used to connect at that airport. Most evenings it takes longer to get from the gate to take off then it took to fly to Boston.
