Belgian Navy to deploy more AUVs from Hydroid Inc.

Hydroid Inc., a Bourne-based manufacturer of autonomous underwater vehicles, or AUVs, said that the Belgian Navy is adding two of the company’s AUVs to its fleet. One Hydroid AUV model is the REMUS 100. The Belgian Navy plans to use two new REMUS 100s to detect underwater mines, improvised explosive devices, and other undetonated ordnances. The REMUS 100 is a torpedo-shaped device that generally weighs about 80 pounds. It is designed to operate in coastal environments at depths of up to 100 meters.
