Japanese firm to buy Chelmsford-based Zoll for $2.2b

Zoll Medical Corp., a Chelmsford maker of resuscitation devices and related software, has agreed to be bought by a Japanese chemical manufacturer for $2.2 billion. The Japanese company is Asahi Kasei Corp., which said that the proposed acquisition will move forward its long term strategic objective of creating a globally competitive health care business that focuses on the field of critical care. This transaction builds on the alliance between the two companies that was announced last July.
