Foreclosure activity increased in Massachusetts last month as major lenders continue their push to rid their books of long-delinquent mortgage loans. Foreclosure petitions, the first step in a property seizure, jumped to 1,394 in February, more than double the number recorded during the same time last year, according to data released Wednesday by the Warren Group, a Boston company that tracks local real estate. Foreclosure deeds swelled to 736 in February, a 41 percent jump.
