Boston Medical, Blue Cross Blue Shield sign global payment pact

Boston Medical Center and seven of its affiliated neighborhood health centers have struck a five-year agreement to accept “global payments’’ from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, the state’s largest health insurer. Under the so-called alternative quality contract, the Boston University teaching hospital and its partners will be given fixed budgets to cover patient care rather than being reimbursed for every visit and procedure. The pact covers nearly 800 doctors.
