Ember Therapeutics licenses brown fat protein from Joslin Diabetes Center

Ember Therapeutics Inc., a Boston start-up looking to build a portfolio of intellectual property related to brown fat, has completed a licensing agreement with the Joslin Diabetes Center. Joslin researchers have been studying a protein shown to play a role in the regulation of brown fat development. White fat stores energy; brown fat burns it off. Ember believes that proteins regulating brown fat can be used to treat such metabolic diseases as obesity and Type 2 diabetes.
