Sector had best showing for February in 5 years

Sales of single-family homes in Massachusetts last month rose 33 percent, making it the best February showing in five years, and providing more evidence that the housing market is gathering momentum, real estate specialists said. There were 2,350 homes sold last month, up from 1,765 in February 2011, according to data released Wednesday by the Warren Group, a Boston company that tracks local real estate. That was the biggest year-over-year increase since May 2010.
