The operator of Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, and Free People stores said quarterly sales climbed in the low single digits, exceeding forecasts. Some analysts expected flat sales. The Philadelphia company is pursuing a turnaround after profit last year fell to a four-year low. It has named cofounder Richard Hayne as CEO, hired Under Armour alum David McCreight to run Anthropologie, and regained Ted Marlow, who left in 2010, as head of its namesake brand.
