Coakley pushes for law offering mortgage aid

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley on Monday lauded a federal study that shows more troubled homeowners are being awarded loan modifications that help them stay in their homes and said her pending legislation would require lenders to consider such workouts before seizing a residence. Coakley was responding to a Boston Globe story that showed an increasing portion of homeowners who receive loan modifications are staying current on their loans, largely because more lenders are offering help that significantly cuts their monthly mortgage payments.
