Mass. home foreclosures rise 36 percent
Lenders stepping up foreclosure activity
More than 850 Massachusetts homeowners lost their properties to foreclosure in March as lenders stepped up seizures of homes that have long been in mortgage default, data released Thursday shows. Lenders seized 856 homes in March, marking a 36.5 percent increase in foreclosures compared to the same time last year, according to The Warren Group, a Boston company that tracks local real estate. Foreclosure initiations, the first step in the seizure process, also jumped in March.
