Could doctors detect depression with a blood test? Two small studies reported preliminary evidence that a constellation of tell-tale markers in patients’ blood may one day be helpful in diagnosing patients with depression. But psychiatrists and scientists, including those involved in the studies, cautioned that the research is still in early stages and the tests are not ready for routine use.
