Rob Balazy appointed CEO of Lycos

Lycos Inc., a Waltham-based provider of social publishing, media, and search services, announced Monday the appointment of Robert “Rob” W. Balazy as its CEO.

Balazy, who had been previously employed with Lycos in 2003, is coming back to lead the company. Before rejoining Lycos, he was president and chief executive of Inform Technologies Inc., a developer of semantic Web technology, Lycos said in a press release.

Lycos was a search engine pioneer but later was among companies eclipsed by Google Inc.

Lycos has been owned by Ybrant Digital, an Indian media group, since 2010.
