WGBH in Boston and its largest union said Wednesday that they reached agreement on a contract similar to one imposed last year, after the union rejected it and managers declared that negotiations had come to an impasse.
“We’re really pleased that the union has come to this agreement, and the members see this contract as in the best interests of everyone at WGBH,” said WGBH vice president of communications Jeanne Hopkins, adding that previous contracts were badly out of date.
Although union officials won some concessions in the last rounds of bargaining, the new contract “is not the agreement that we wanted,” said Jordan Weinstein, local afternoon news anchor and president of the Association of Employees of the Educational Foundation, Communications Workers of America, Local 1300, which represents 250 production workers, editors, producers, writers, and marketing employees. WGBH has about 850 employees overall.
