TV makers try new tricks to restore market’s prices

A radical new television set, designed to end the eternal battle for the remote control, was shown in Boston Tuesday.

The flat-panel TV, presented at SID Display Week, an industry trade show for electronic screen makers at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, allows two people wearing special glasses to watch different programs on the same screen.

A solution in search of a problem. Dumb.

I, for one, have gotten to the point where I simply am not interested in the next newest, greatest innovation. It seems like the differences don't really make that big of a difference. You're still stuck with a couple hundred cable channels with bad programming, twenty minutes of commercials/hour, obnoxious political ads, and news that repeats itself ad nauseum. Simply hold on to the current tv, catch the few minutes that you want to see, and don't bother buying the new toy.

What about sound? Presumably you have to wear some kind of earphones to isolate the audio, in addition to the goggles. Sounds pretty ridiculous. HD was a big improvement, but the manufacturers should not have fooled themselves into thinking they can add a few new features every couple of years and get people to upgrade.
