Morning newscast at FOX25 will soon start at 4 a.m.

FOX25 News will soon wake up its New England TV viewers a half-hour earlier on weekdays and will also offer an hour weekend newscast at 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays as the station looks to expand its local news coverage, general manager Gregg Kelley said Wednesday.

Effective July 9, the station’s morning newscast will start at 4 a.m.

The newscast currently begins at 4:30.

Co-hosts Gene Lavanchy and Shannon Mulaire, meteorologist Cindy Fitzgibbon, and news commentator Doug “VB” Goudie will be joined by reporters Elizabeth Hopkins, Brett Connolly, and newcomer Sorboni Banerjee on FOX25 Morning News, FOX25 said.

On July 7, FOX25 News plans to unveil an hour weekend newscast on Saturdays and Sundays at 6 p.m.

The additional newscast will offer FOX25 viewers the opportunity of getting news at 6 p.m., 10 p.m., and 11 p.m. on the weekend, the station said.

With the changes, FOX25 News said it will offer 47 hours of local news programming a week, more than any other local broadcast station.
