Upper Crust accused of scheming on pay

Affidavit from CFO claims checks forged, pay slashed

After being ordered by the government to pay employees nearly $350,000 in overtime, executives at Upper Crust devised a scheme to wrest the money back, including cashing forged checks and slashing workers’ wages, according to the pizza chain’s former chief financial officer.

Upper Crust founder Jordan Tobins “yelled and screamed about the investigation” after the US Department of Labor informed the Boston chain it owed money to more than 100 employees, David Marcus said in an affidavit filed on Friday in Suffolk Superior Court in a lawsuit brought by former workers over back pay.

It amazes me that they continue to have customers.....they are such sleezes

Who would eat at such an unethical restaurant chain? (One percenters?) It's name says it all! Eat one of our pizzas and reduce your status anxiety!

I stopped eating there when the Globe first published its article in 2010 outlining their sleazy practices and their use and misuse of illegal immingrants. I even went in to one of their stores and told them so. It amazed me though how many people still eat there; most probably don't even know about all this or if they do, they don't care.

"...because the restaurant's management began routinely exploiting the Brazilian workers by underpaying them for long work weeks while the owners indulged in personal luxuries." Who says The American Dream is no longer attainable when three morons can start a company, exploit employees, and buy a plane. I hope all these clowns spend some time in jail. Curious to know if this is the tip of the iceberg or the exception?

I will no longer go to Upper Crust. However, I ask the question, "Can this be the only Pizza Restaurant in Boston or its suburbs that has these workers who by their background are treated like this?" Also, where did the founders of UC get this idea? Do smaller Pizza Places get away with it because of their size?
