New line from Yankee Candle celebrates the fragrance of coconuts

Fashions come and go, but in the world of fragrances and sweet-smelling vapors, the hot scent for summer may be coconut.

So suggests a press release from the Yankee Candle Co., a Deerfield-based retailer that has more than 550 stores that are stocked wall-to-wall with scented candles.

A newly launched “Limited Edition Collection” features the coconut as a key component.

One new candle seemingly offers more exotic ingredients than a Trader Vic’s pina colada. This one’s called the Coconut & Mandarin candle, and according to the company, it’s a” lively medley of mandarin, pineapple, coconut, and vanilla.” When lit, it’s “like a tropical vacation for your spirits.”

Several other coconut blends are available from Yankee Candle, and they can be had in canisters or two-wick tumblers. Two-wick tumblers can sell for about $28.

Earlier this year, Yankee electrified the candle world by noting that an item from its line of man candles was a top selling product. One example of a man candle: Something called the 2x4 (presumably pronounced “two-by-four”). Redolent of sawdust and freshly planed wood, a burning 2x4 candle “evokes a sense of confidence and quality,” the company says.

It’s hard to say whether a 2x4 customer would want to try the Coconut & Vanilla Bean candle from the new limited edition collection. According to Yankee Candle, a Coconut & Vanilla Bean candle will make folks feel “warm, wonderful, and contented.”
