Enrique Salem worked at Symantec 19 years, the last three as chief executive of the Mountain View, Calif., company.

Symantec, the largest maker of computer-security software, ousted CEO Enrique Salem and passed the reins to chairman Steve Bennett. Symantec’s assets are strong yet the company lags, Bennett said. The stock is down 16 percent this year as sales slow and profit shrinks. And the company has struggled to expand in the storage market since it bought Veritas in 2005.
