As soon as they saw the terrified boy’s photo three years ago, federal agents Peter Manning and Gregory Squire had the same thought: we have to save him. The blue-eyed child, about 18 months old, was naked from the waist down and clutching a stuffed rabbit for comfort. There was no doubt he had been sexually abused. But that doesn’t begin to describe his suffering.
“He looked like he had been crying for three days,” Squire recalled in a recent interview.

Heartbreaking story...I wonder what we (the public) can do to help?? My heart goes out to the victims and my respect to those who are fighting this seemingly unstoppable fight.
I am stunned reading this. I guess I never really knew what was really meant by "child pornography." I mean toddlers and infants? And the numbers and shear magnitude and size of this distribution network....? Just wow. Seldom at my age (50) do I read anything in the newspaper or online that is so completely new and stunning to me anymore, but this would be such a time. Thank you investigators.
I already threw up... and not metaphorically speaking.
Make this a crime against humanity punishable by death- put some resources behind it (50 or so investigators), follow the money and bring these coward losers down. Any politician who opposes this should be voted out of office.
It is another example of pedophiles being fundamentally incompatible with the rest of the population. It is a case where their free speech is not free at all in terms of cost to society. Similar to yelling fire at the theater, it should not be protected. We should decrypt their communications and hunt them down as an enemy of the children.
You are reacting to this heinous kind of crime with a knee jerk "kill him!" mobster mentality. These pedophiles need to be locked up, I do believe, because they will always be dangerous, but killing one of them is NOT an option, in my book. There are many people with moral principles who do NOT support the death penalty under any circumstance and you know that. Many are nuns and people in the religious life and they have worked in the worst places and have seen it all. They are not naive (the common cry of those who want to see the death penalty).
What I still don't get is how these people end up so deeply deranged. I don't think anyone knows why they are that way. There are theories, but no clear finding. It is baffling. If only we knew...
Horrifying story, but great police work.
Wow what a brilliantly written and researched article. I'm suprised this doesn't have as many comments. I hope you get the recognition you deserve for this piece!
On behalf of Jenifer, thank you.
Great article Jenifer B. McKim! I am not a fan of Boston I.C.E. but this department, and the people working in it, represents what I feel we are about in the United States. We step up and do the right thing by people and those without a voice. I don’t mind paying for that. I can’t imagine the emotional costs to the individuals and their families doing this important work, but know that people you will never meet appreciate it and we thank you for your service!
