Applied Materials Inc. will eliminate 55 jobs at its Gloucester facility this month, according to documents filed with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. The company, based in Santa Clara, Calif., is a major producer of equipment used to manufacture semiconductors, such as microprocessors and memory chips.
In an e-mail, an Applied Materials spokeswoman said that the layoffs are due to “synergies related to leveraging Applied’s global supply chain and reducing administrative and public company costs.”
