As a result of Skyhook technology being incorporated into the Priceline app, travelers can use their Kindle Fire devices to quickly find and book last-minute hotel rooms nearby at up-to-the-minute current published prices, Skyhook said. Previously, the Priceline app could not take advantage of a traveler’s location to find nearby discounted rates, Skyhook said.

Priceline Hotel Negotiator is available for free in the Amazon App store, Skyhook noted. Priceline also has a Name Your Own Price hotel service that lets consumers bid on rooms.

Nearly a decade ago, Skyhook developed a Wi-Fi positioning system that provides location results in urban areas. Today that system provides positioning information for consumer mobile devices such as Kindle Fires and smartphones as wells as for their applications.
