Dow falls 128; Chevron and Alcoa lead the way

Downbeat reports from Alcoa (it expects a slowdown in China) and Chevron (it warns profit will be substantially lower) at the start of earnings season pulled stocks lower a third straight day. The Dow had its steepest loss since June. The Fed said the economy grew modestly in August and September but hiring and consumer spending remained flat.
