Mattel’s quarterly income soars

Mattel said cost cuts and higher revenue from toys including Monster High dolls and Fisher-Price helped send third-quarter net income up 22 percent. But the stronger dollar and competition in the doll aisle was a drag on Barbie; revenue from that brand fell 4 percent. Net income was $365 million, or $1.04 per share, up from $300 million, or 86 cents, a year ago.
