Production jump may make US world’s top oil producer

NEW YORK — US oil output is surging so fast that the United States could soon overtake Saudi Arabia as the world’s biggest producer.

Driven by high prices and new drilling methods, US production of crude and other liquid hydrocarbons is on track to rise 7 percent this year to an average of 10.9 million barrels per day. This will be the fourth straight year of crude increases and the biggest single-year gain since 1951.

This is impossible! Haven't these people read the memo from the Romney campaign? Now, if we could combine this effort with one similar to Germany's in solar/wind production, we would really make some progress. One of the problems is, I think, that oil interests here have a disproportionate influence on policy as do nuclear interests in Japan. There should be a way to have our leaders actually concentrate on a long range strategy that puts renewables in the forefront. Below is an interesting set of graphs on this topic. http://cleantechnica.com/2012/06/12/10-solar-power-graphics/
