Romney testimony reveals rocky start at Staples

The company revolutionized the office supply business, but its success was far from guaranteed

It was early 1987, and Mitt Romney was shopping. And he was angry.

He was walking the aisles of Staples, a little-known retail store his firm had bet $1.5 million on so far, and picking up office supplies. Then he waited in line at the checkout counter — for far too long.

what a non story Really.

Why is this news?  Beth, you are having trouble finding dirt on Mitt.  Go back to the drawing board, because it looks like he might win!!

Actually, this story shows Romney in a pretty positive light. He fought through the sometimes-difficult issues with Staples, and eventually ended up with a win-win for both Staples and Bain. It was a tough road, but Romney had the skill and commitment to pull it off. And, after all the tough negotiating was done, Tom Stemberg still became one of Romney's strongest supporters. Now think about Romney applying those same skills and commitment to working with Congress to address our economic challenges. He may not host a "beer summit" in the Rose Garden, but in the end, he'll probably fix the problem. Far from the caricature of a bumbling Romney that the Democrats have tried to paint, this article just proves that Romney is one very, very talented leader.

This is Boston Globe news????????????????????

Tell the subscribers what is in Obama's little Blue Book that he is giving voters in the swing states!

Tell us the details of the Benghazi terrorist attacks! You know Obama's 'YouTube Protest.'

For God's sake - give your Massachusetts readers some facts that are worthy of print.

When you live with the sharks...

Mr. "business acumen" was leery of putting money into Staples, but the public thought otherwise, as proved by the IPO. It became a relatively successful company. Can you see a pattern here?

The Globe has been on a continuous vendetta to sink Romney and Sen. Brown. It is truly amazing how well Sen. Brown is doing considering the daily negative articles written about him by virtually ALL of the columnists. This shows media bias at its best.

This shows what exactly?  That Romney is a prudent, demanding, shrewd, effective businessman?  We already know this.  Why is this story "news"?

What's missing from this "story" is why did the Globe pursue it? No mention of the infamous Gloria Allred's role in, no doubt, bringing this to the Globe's attention in a DESPERATE attempt to find SOMETHING to indicate Romney "hates women" and would LIE about anything both to enrich a friend and himself. Nothing of any note is to be found here; Romney testified honestly, no one was sure Staples would be successful at that stage and, consequently, NOTHING in this extreme effort warranted media attention. The one thing  remarkable about this story is how SIMILAR it is to previoius, unscrupulous Obama election schemes involving SEALED divorce testimony. This was fishing expedition with ONE goal, SMEAR ROMNEY. It is impossible to believe the Globe was duped into this effort so the only conclusion is that the Globe is transparently bias and transparantly bias in using unscrupulous means to achieve its goal. One would think the Globe would be ashamed of working with the disgusting likes of a muckracker like Allred but to actually go on and print this nothing of a "story" as though it had an iota of journalistic merit is bogus beyond the pale. Do you people have no shame?

Another Pathetic end to a Globe Charade Gone Bad! Gloria Allred! Really?
