Polartec LLC, a Lawrence-based provider of so-called performance fabrics under the Polartec brand name, has ­appointed Gary Smith chief executive, completing a management succession that was announced in July.

As part of that process, Joe Robinson is being appointed chief financial officer.

Smith, 49, previously was president of the Outdoor Group for Timberland Co. He is succeeding Andrew J. Vecchione.

Polartec is owned by Versa Capital Management, a Philadelphia investment firm.
