Wall Street reopened Wednesday after being closed for two days following Hurricane Sandy. It was the first time since 1888 that weather had shut stock trading for two days. Waterlogged and unmoved by a solid October jobs report on Friday, indexes fell as details about the storm’s costs to insurers and businesses began to trickle out.
