A US Court of Appeals panel in Boston upheld a lower court ruling that found Starbucks owes Massachusetts baristas more than $14 million for violating state laws preventing supervisors from sharing in tips pools.
Starbucks baristas challenged the Seattle coffee chain’s practice of requiring them to share tips with shift supervisors, according to a class-action lawsuit filed in 2008. Last year, a federal judge ruled against Starbucks and the company appealed that decision.

Simple solution...post a sign that no tipping is allowed like some DD's do. Why do people think there is a need to tip just because there is a "tip jar" on the counter. Do these java slingers make less than minimum wage like waiters? The next time you go into a pizza shop, auto parts store or corner store ask where the "tip jar" is. They offer the same or greater service.
If a Massachusetts court rules against Starbucks and/or Dunkin Donuts, any fines will simply go into the General Fund. Actual baristas will get nothing.
