AvalonBay Communities Inc. wants to start construction next year on a 38-story apartment tower next to TD Garden that would include a two-story retail arcade connecting to the arena and North Station.
The $200 million development would bring 503 apartments to Boston’s West End, where several other developers are also planning large housing and retail projects.

503 apartments, 219 parking spaces... hmmm...
Why do suburban people always carp about urban projects? Guess what, many of us in the city don't have cars. I know it sounds crazy to people in the land of birds, trees, and soul-crushing boredom, but it's true. This is walking distance to about a million jobs, and on top of two subway lines and God knows how many train lines. Enjoy your split-level ranch and Toyota Camry and keep thinking we're all crazy for not needing or wanting cars.
Hopefully this building will have more character than the other lack-luster developments in downtown Boston of late. Sadly, its doubtful that it will! Ho Hum!
