Start-up raises $9m for developing product design services for the cloud-computing era

Veterans from SolidWorks, a local firm specializing in 3-D modeling software, have raised $9 million for a start-up that looks to develop a fresh take on product design in the era of cloud computing.

The place-holder name for the new venture is Belmont Technology Inc. North Bridge Venture Partners and Commonwealth Capital invested in the new firm. (SolidWorks was sold several years ago to Dassault Systèmes, a French company focused on computer-aided design.)
