Fenway Center in jeopardy due to impasse with MassDOT

The $450 million Fenway Center development over the Massachusetts Turnpike in Boston is in jeopardy because of a stalemate between the developer and state officials over a long-term lease for the property, according to a source with knowledge of the matter.

Unless the two sides reach a leasing deal for the massive residential, retail, and office project soon, developer John Rosenthal’s investment partner will pull out, said the source, who was not authorized to speak publicly.

Does Casey Ross work for John Rosenthal or for the Boston Globe? Or possibly for both?

The tenor of the the first several paragraphs leaves the impression that the state is the problem. Much later in the story, with careful reading, it appears that the state may be merely trying to protect the taxpayers.

Agree with earlier comment that the front of the article gives a MUCH different impression than the meatier sections towards the end.  I am totally comfortable with the state NOT granting this lease, if the developer is trying to squeeze tax dollars back into its own pockets.

Tax them on the value of their land.  No giveaway subsidies here.
