Teen perspectives on race and ethnicity

How does the next generation view current attitudes about race in Boston? We asked young writers from the Teens in Print program whether divisions exist based on skin color or ethnicity.

How does the next generation view attitudes about race and ethnicity in Boston? We asked young writers from the Teens in Print program whether divisions still exist based on skin color or ethnicity and whether discrimination is a factor in their lives.

Some of these statements were sad.  They are being taught at home that their skin color is a crutch...that is what needs to change first...

I disagree with Chrissie78. I did not read any comments in which a teen used (or implied) ethnic background as a "crutch." Rather, several pointed out how OTHERS have made assumptions about them based on skin tone. That is a different proposition. On a different note, does this program not have any male participants?

Race does matter, so does color and ethnicity.  Generally, people make judgement on certain assumptions.  The key is to move beyond assumptions and find out what's beneath the surface.  Some times that's easy, sometimes it's not. Younger people look at things differently than they did when I grew up.

Is there a reason all these teens are girls?
