LAST SPRING, I BECAME one of the people who went a little bit crazy when “Scandal” started on ABC. This was a big deal for two reasons. The first was that the star of “Scandal” is Kerry Washington. Washington’s the sort of woman who deserves better parts than the assortment of girlfriends, wives, and temptresses she has played.
With some actors, you spend so much time hoping for the best that it becomes a trial — is this the show-movie-book-record that does “it”? I just wanted whatever I was rooting for to happen for Washington — for the whole world to love her brainy approach to sexiness as much as her obsessives do.

I know you are making a bigger point -- and you're right about it -- but on a small scale, can I just disagree and say Scandal is a lot of fun. Yeah, some times the dialogue is too fast paced, but folks used to complain about West Wing doing the same thing. I think it's smartly written and entertaining.
Incendiary article Mr Morris. I also believes it insults the intelligence. A strong well written show could have a anyone in the lead regardless of color. There have been many great shows featuring people of color and I doubt their success can be traced to one type of person watching. Ratings drive advertising dollars plain and simple. Maybe it's the lack of black actors and actresses? Fact 12% of the Population is Black, 16% is Hispanic or Latino, which may explain the lack of actor/actresses. Why is TV still so white? Really? I would have had much more respect for your article if you had stated a reason rather than throwing a grenade into the room and then walking out. Oh btw I'm a 53 year old white male who watches Key and Peele weekly which I know put's me outside their demographic.
White person decides that white overrepresentation on TV is cool, also intimates that racism in the media is an acceptable price to pay for financial success. Rather than the traditional claiming of a black friend, he mentions that he watches a "black" TV show because that should count for something, right?
Tell me, 53 year old white male : how many scripted shows in primetime slots have non-white characters as main characters--not tokens, not bit parts, not sidekicks, not stereotypes? Is it 12%? 16%? Less? Waaaay less?
If you don't see a problem there, I don't know what to tell you. I don't doubt that you'd get along fine either way, though.
Parenthood is a sappy soap opera, but it has a biracial couple, a Hispanic adopted child, an autistic child, a mother with breast cancer and an Afghan vet with PTSD. This merits a high score from the diversity judges.
Lucy Liu in a Deerstalker hat? I don't see it happening. You can even add the pipe, it just doesn't work, sorry.
Rucy Riu? Does she shop at RuRuRemon?

Why is basketball so black dominated?
Tell me about it. They make up about 12% of the US population but maybe 80% of the nba, and if anyone questions that publicly theyd probably be called a racist

Who actually watches TV? Other than sports and news what is the dempgraphic of TV watchers?
Well, it was either acting on TV or teaching elementary school in Everett. Why is NYTimes board of directors consist of thirteen whites, one token Japanese guy, no Blacks and no Hispanics?
